Milk, Milk, and Lemonade… the other side is where fudge is made

I thought of the little limmerick from (what movie?) this morning as I sipped on hot coffee and wished for lemongrass tea instead. Nursing Caed I thought of that little ditty above and thought, “Yeah, lemonade and milk go together, and of course EVERY woman likes chocolate.”

Anyway… I digress.

The point of this whole post is just how AWESOME is it that anything I put into my body turns into wonderful, rich, awesome, magnificent breastMILK for my little man.

I had a glass of champagne = MILK

Dark chocolate Lindor truffles = MILK

chili with Frito corn chips and cheese = MILK

candy cane = MILK

tomato soup = MILK

Just amazing. We’ve gotten over that first few weeks of horrible pain and major uncomfortable-ness and now, well… I finally ”get it”. This breastfeeding thing is the            “SHA-ZING!!!”  (to quote a famous 4 year old I know). No bottles, no sterilizing, no bottled water to remember, no wiping up spit-up from formula (this child hasn’t spit up ONE TIME in 2 months!). Awesome.

I’m glad I went through the hell and horror of my first ***4*** attempts to breastfeed. I won’t take it lightly, I have more empathy for women I might come in contact with who are struggling and wanting to quit, I “been-there-bought-the-tshirt”.

5th time’s a charm.

:)

I could add a list of studies and charts and SCIENCE that backs up the awesome-ness of breastfeeding, but I won’t. For one thing, I felt an incredible amount of GUILT when I read this stuff when I couldn’t breastfeed my other children any longer (5 weeks was the longest previously). And I won’t do that to any woman knowingly, whether it’s about breastfeeding or natural birth, or cesarean prevention or WHATEVER. The other reason is that I’m just happy about this thing working out so wonderfully. I’m proud of myself for perservering, for finally listening to my body and responding accordingly when it needed rest to overcome a plugged duct and mastitis, for all the stuff that brought me to HERE. To TODAY.

Milk and fudge indeed. What better combination? :)

It is indeed amazing!!! It’s awesome that when I go to third world countries I know my baby is not exposed to anything dangerous through the food. Even when Momma gets the trots, the baby is happy as a clam on his perfectly balanced and clean breastmilk!

I just left you a blog award! When you have time in all that milk-making, stop by and pick it up! :-)

Congrats on it through the it all the pain! I love it–anything I eat turns to milk!!!! I have extra storage bins for my milk –both sides of my waist to storage bins that hang below my lower back!!!

You go girl! Abby is still liking the milk as well! I know Nathan would have kept going had I not had to stop to keep Abby. Abby though – she can go as long as she would like! It is all worth it!
